He is also known for starring as Jayne Cobb in the TV series Firefly and John Casey in the action-comedy/spy-drama television series Chuck from 2007 to 2012.
He married actress Ami Julius in 1988. The marriage produced three children: Gabrielle, Jeselle Jane and Devlin Shepard.
In 2006, he won the SyFy Genre Award for Best Supporting Actor/Television for his performance on Firefly.
