About Adolf Dassler
Adolf Dassler, also known as Adi Dassler, may have made the best decision of his life when he decided to not become a baker, although he was fully trained in the craft. He acquired stitching skills from his father, who was a cobbler, then began to make shoes. He became an entrepreneur and inventor, who later founded Adidas, the sportswear company.
Family Life
He was born to Pauline and Christoph Dassler. He had three siblings – Marie, Fritz and Rudolf Dassler. His senior brother, Rudolf, is renowned for establishing the popular footwear brand, Puma.
Kathe Dassler, whom he married in 1937, was his widow. Their union produced four children, including Horst Dassler, the founder of swimming equipment company, Arena.
Death
He died, in September 1978, as a result of heart failure.
Trivia
He was known for partnering and supplying sporting gears to prominent sports personalities including American track-and-field icon, Jesse Owens.
During WW2, Dassler designed special boots for the German army.
