This star was born to parents who both worked as high school coaches. Growing up, she loved showbiz and also did several performances in church. Her parents enrolled her at Governor’s School for the Arts and she continued her schooling at Marymount Manhattan College.
Career
In 2009, she started performing in the theatre beginning with “The Wiz”, she played the role of Lorell Robinson in “Dream Girls”. In 2011, she played Danielle in “Bring It On”. She was given the role of Rachel Manning in an episode of Blue Bloods” television series in 2013 before playing Dina in “Orange is the New Black” and Nina in “People in New Jersey” in the same year. In 2014, she played Carrie Waylan in “Black Box” then played Maternity in “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver”. Other shows she has been in include “Royal Pains”, “The Woman King” and “Women of the Movement”.
Achievements
Her acting has earned her a few nominations and wins including a Tony Award for Best Actress in a musical for her performance in “Tina: The Tina Turner Musical”.
