About Ahmet Davutoğlu
Until he resigned in 2016 after disagreements with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Davutoglu served as Turkey's prime minister from 2014. Prior to holding that position, he was an ambassador, the prime minister's main advisor, and a foreign minister.
Career
He tutored at the Political Science Department in the International Islamic University of Malaysia in 1990 and served as its chairperson until 1993.
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer and Prime Minister Abdullah Gül decided jointly to confer the status of ambassador on him in 2003. Following Recep Tayyip Erdoan's election as prime minister, he was named his principal foreign policy adviser.
His candidacy for the position of party leader was proclaimed by the AKP Central Executive Committee. Following Erdogan's resignation as prime minister, he was unanimously chosen as the party's leader during the first AKP Extraordinary Congress, establishing the 62nd Government of the Turkish Republic.
Background
He had his high school education at Istanbul Erkek Lisesi. He then obtained a bachelor's degree in economics and political science from the Bogazici University. Similarly, his master’s degree and PhD in Political Science and International Relations came from Bogazici University.
He got married to Sare Davutoglu in 1984, and they have five kids.
