About Al Macinnis
Al MacInnis is regarded as one of the players with the hardest slapshot skills and he proved it by becoming a seven-time Hardest Shot competition winner.
Early Life
MacInnis was born in Nova Scotia, Canada and was the seventh out of eight children. Together with his five brothers, they played hockey during the winters. It was during that time that he started to develop his slapshot skill.
Career
After playing in the junior league, MacInnis made his National Hockey League (NHL) debut with the Calgary Flames in 1981. By the end of his first year, he was known for his slapshot. He stayed with the Flames for 13 seasons before moving to the St Louis Blues. MacInnis also played for the Canadian national team and participated in international competitions like the Men’s World Ice Hockey Championship, as well as the 1998 and 2002 Winter Olympics, winning a gold medal in the latter.
Achievements
After retiring in 2005, the Blues retired his jersey number the following year. The team also erected a statue in his honor in 2009. He has been inducted into three halls of fame, namely the Hockey Hall of Fame, Nova Scotia Sports Hall of Fame, and the St Louis Sports Hall of Fame.
