About Alan Hale Jr
He was the son of a prominent actor. As such Alan Hale Jr was exposed to the film industry at a very young age. As a baby, he was featured in one silent film of the 1920s. At just 10 years old, he debuted on Broadway and followed it two years later with his screen debut.
He is remembered best for his portrayal of Jonas Grumby/The Skipper in the television series “Gilligan’s Island”, which he reprised in the franchise’s TV movies and animated series.
Family Life
He was the son of actor Alan Hale Sr. and actress Gretchen Hartman. He was first married to Bettina Reed Doer, the mother of his four children, from 1943 to 1963. Naomi Grace Ingram was his wife from 1964 until his death.
Other Ventures
He was also a restaurateur through his co-ownership of the Alan Hale’s Lobster Barrel from the 1970s until 1982.
Death
He died of thymus cancer on 2 January 1990.
