About Alan Hansen
Scottish soccer legend Alan Hansen recorded most of his successes as a player of English side Liverpool. He joined the team in 1977. Before moving to Merseyside, the highly-rated center back played for Partick Thistle in his homeland.
During his time in Liverpool, which lasted for over a decade, Hansen won the English First Division eight times. He also won a couple of FA Cup titles, and contributed to the team’s UEFA Super Cup success in 1977. He also helped the group to win three European Cups.
International career
The Scottish made his senior debut in 1979 following an impressive performance at the Under 23 level. He played regularly for the team at the 1982 edition of the FIFA World Cup which was held in Spain.
Post-retirement
The former center-back became a broadcaster after announcing his retirement in 1991. As a pundit, he has worked for many media organizations such as the BBC, and Sky Television. He would be remembered for his time as one of the hosts of the TV show “Match of the Day”. He is best known for his "you can't win anything with kids" phrase, which was in reference to Manchester United’s academy graduates in 1995.
Family
This soccer icon has been married to Janet Hansen. They tied the knot in 1980.
Personal Accolades
He won the PFA First Division Team of the Year on many occasions. In 2006, he was named into the English Football Hall of Fame. The following year, his name was included in the Scottish Football Hall of Fame.
Trivia
He shared the same locker room with some top players like Kenny Dalglish, and Emlyn Hughes.
He had over 20 stitches around his forehead following a nasty injury he sustained at age 15.
