About Albert Lee Ueltschi
Albert Lee Ueltschi was an aviator best remembered for being the father of modern flight training. He was the founder of FlightSafety International and featured on the 2013 Flying magazine’s list of “51 Heroes of Aviation.”
Early Life
Ueltschi was the youngest of seven children born to Robert and Lena Ueltschi. He was interested in flying aircrafts and opened a hamburger business to pay for his flight lessons when he was a teenager. He attended the University of Kentucky but dropped out after his freshman year to work as a flying instructor.
Business & Later Years
His pilot career took off in 1941 when he started flying for the aviation businessman, Juan Trippe. Eventually, Ueltschi founded his organization, FlightSafety International in 1951, which became the leading aviation training facility. After stepping down as president in 2003, he worked on several philanthropic causes. Ueltschi passed away in 2012.
