About Alex Rodrigo Dias da Costa
Brazilian retired professional footballer Alex Rodrigo Dias da Costa earned the nicknames, “The Tank” and “Cannon of Vila Belmiro” due to his powerful shot and physical strength. He began his career with local club Santos in 2002. Two years later, he was purchased by Chelsea who subsequently sent him on loan to PSV in the Netherlands. He returned to the club in 2007 following three successful seasons with PSV. In 2012, he joined Paris Saint-Germain and in 2014, left for A.C. Milan, where he retired in 2016. He played for Brazil’s national U23 and senior teams.
Achievements
He was a winner of the 2002 and 2003 Bola de Prata awards in Brazil. While playing with Chelsea, he won the 2009/10 Premier League, 2009 FA Community Shield and the 2008/09 and 2009/10 FA Cup.
Trivia
He received a call-up for the 2010 FIFA World Cup as a backup player.
