Alexander von Humboldt was an esteemed Prussian explorer, geographer and naturalist remembered for his instrumental work in botanical geography as well as for his highly influential treaties Kosmos, which served as the foundation of biogeography. He is considered one of the greatest scientists of all time.

He never married nor fathered any children. He was born to Maria Elisabeth and Alexander Georg von Humboldt. He grew with his older brother Wilhelm von Humboldt, who became a renowned linguist and philosopher.
