About Alfred Wegener
Known in his lifetime for being one of polar research’s pioneers, Alfred Wegener, today, is more appreciated for his early contribution to the scientific theory of plate tectonics. The German researcher, meteorologist and geophysicist was the first person to hypothesize continental drift in 1912. Unfortunately, it was not until 20 years after his death that his hypothesis was accepted by mainstream geologists.
