About Alice Roosevelt Longworth
Alice Roosevelt Longworth was the eldest child and daughter of USA President Theodore Roosevelt. However, aside from being the President’s daughter, she was also famous for being a prominent socialite and a writer.
Early life
She was born in Manhattan, New York City. However, two days after her birth, her mother sadly died of kidney failure. She grew up living with her aunt. President Roosevelt, at the time, was a New York City assemblyman and so was far away from his wife.
However, after her father remarried in 1886, she moved to stay with him in Oyster Bay, Long Island. She now became accustomed to American politics and tradition.
Socialite life
During her father’s tenure in office as President, she became a center of American attention. She was seen smoking in public on several occasions and partying until late midnight numerous times. Some papers reported that she kept a green snake in the White House and was an addicted gambler with a bookie.
Famous Asian Tour
In 1905, she led an American delegation to tour Asia. It has been recorded as the largest American diplomatic mission ever, comprising U.S. War Secretary William Howard Taft, seven senators, 23 congressmen, and numerous officials.
Death
She died at age 96 on February 20, 1980.
