Mary Alicia Rhett is an American actress who doubles as a portrait painter. The actress is known widely for her role as India Wilkes in the 1939 "Gone with The Wind" sensation.
Early Life
As immigrants from Liverpool, the Rhett family did not have things easy in America. Despite all odds, Alicia Rhett enrolled and graduated from Memmiger High School and went on to become an actress.
Career
Rhett's career jump-started to stardom when she was discovered by George Cukor, a Hollywood director who believed that she could play the role of India Wikes in the movie "Gone With the Wind" very well. She didn't disappoint him, and the 1937 production was a huge success. Whilst filming, Rhett showed off her painting prowess by painting portraits of all the actors and staff. She later created portraits of prominent individuals such as Alexander Ripley. Alicia Rhett also illustrated several books.
Death
Rhett died in 2014 from a short illness.
