"Piccolo Mondo Antico" star Alida Valli was a renowned Italian screen actress. She is also known for her roles in other films such as "The Third Man" and "1900". Her career spanned over seven-decades, with appearances in more than one hundred films, and over ten television shows. She has also performed in several stage plays.
Family
She was married briefly to Oscar de Mejo and they had two sons. They were divorced in 1952 and she got married to Italian film director Giancarlo Zagni in the 1960's; however, they got divorced in the 1970s.
Career
Her acting career began in the mid-1930s and not long after that she appeared in the comedy "Mille Lire al Mese" and in the drama "Piccolo Mondo Antico".
During the Second World War, she featured in several movies such as "Stasera niente di nuovo'' and "diptych Noi Vivi / Addio Kira!"
Achievements
Many historians have considered her one of the greatest actresses of Italian film during the Fascist era.

Italian fascist leader Benito Mussolini named her the "most beautiful woman in the world".
Awards
She was awarded "Best Actress" at the Venice Film Festival for her performance in the film “Piccolo mondo antico” in 1941.
She bestowed upon the Knight of the Italian Republic.
In 1997, she received a Lifetime Achievement Golden Lion from the Venice Film Festival.
Death
She died at her home on 22 April, 2006, aged 84.
