About Alois Alzheimer
Alois Alzheimer goes into the history book as the first person to identify the special "presenile dementia" condition which would later be known as the ‘Alzheimer's disease’. The German neuropathologist and psychiatrist began practicing in 1887, a year after completing his medical training.
He made the headlines in 1906 when he worked on the brain of Auguste Deter, a mentally-ill woman who had just died. His research resulted in what is now referred to as ‘Alzheimer's disease’. He was also known for his partnership with Emil Kraepelin.
Family
He was born to Eduard Román Alzheimer and Anna Johanna Barbara Sabina. He was married to Cecilie Simonette Nathalie Geisenheimer, and had three kids.
Education
Alzheimer studied at the University of Würzburg, the University of Berlin, and the University of Tübingen.
Trivia
He trained some popular neuropathologists including Gonzalo Rodríguez Lafora, and Nicolás Achúcarro.
He was also a professor at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich.
