About Alvin Kraenzlein
The American track-and-field athlete was the first to be named winner of four individual gold medals at a single Olympic Games. Kraenzlein was an inductee of the Olympic Hall of Fame.
Early Years
Soon after his birth, his family relocated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 1895, he was welcomed into the University of Wisconsin where he excelled in several speed events. He later studied dentistry at the University of Pennsylvania.
Sports Highlights
In 1899, the athletic star set new high jump records, first at the Penn Relays and later at the IC4A Championships. During the 1900 Games, he grabbed the winner title of the 60m dash, the 110 hurdles and the 200m hurdles and then in the long jump. Later that year, he coached track teams from Mercersburg Academy and the University of Michigan.
Trivia
Around the time of his death, Kraenzlein was hailed by the University of Pennsylvania as the best athlete of their time.
