About Ambrose Bierce
Ambrose Bierce, also known by the nickname "Bitter Bierce", was an American journalist, short story writer, satirist and editorialist best remembered for his 1890 short story titled An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge (also known as A Dead Man’s Dream) and 1911’s satirical dictionary The Devil’s Dictionary.
Family Life
He was the son of Laura Sherwood and Marcus Aurelius Bierce. He got married to Mary Ellen Day in 1871. The marriage produced three children before ending in divorce in 1904.
Trivia
He disappeared mysteriously in October 1913. And up until today, no one knows exactly what happened to him or where his remains rest.
He enlisted in the 9th Indiana Infantry Regiment of the Union Army during the American Civil War.
He suffered from asthma all his life.
