About André Derain
He was a French valuable asset in the world of art; he was a painter, sculptor and designer. He is also believed to have co-founded fauvism.
Personal Life
At a young age, he started learning on his own and later got into Académie Camillo where he studied engineering but that was not enough for him. He went on to have classes to study painting. He started working on paintings together with Maurice de Vlaminck at the same studio but were stopped by the military. He went on to get into Académie Julian when Maurice was able to convince his parents to allow him pursue his painting passion instead of enforcing engineering on him.
Career
In 1905, he did a lot of work with Maurice and went on to exhibit their works at Salon d'Automne. He moved to England in 1906 to work and was informed that the city was the subject. His paintings of parts of London were original and completely different from what other artists had done. About a year later, his studio was purchased by Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler. Even when his style of art changed, he was considered one of the best.
Trivia
He was a close friend of Pablo Picasso and at a point in time he moved to Montmartre to be closer to him.
Death
In 1953, he struggled with an eye infection he had contracted that did not really heal. About a year later, he was run over by a vehicle and died.
