About Andrew Grove
Andrew Grove migrated to America at the age of 20 years in an attempt to escape the political unrest in his native country, Hungary. After completing his education in the U.S., he started working with Fairchild Semiconductor International, Inc. in 1963. Four years later, he was made the company’s deputy director of development.
He later joined Intel Corporation in 1968 as one of its first employees. He began his work there as the leader of the engineering team. During his time with the company, he brought up many initiatives such as the Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory. He was instrumental in the company’s partnership with American tech company, IBM.
Family
He lived with his parents György and Mária Gróf during the early stages of his life. He was married to Eva Kastan, and together they had two kids: Robie Spector and Karen Grove.
Education
He read chemical engineering at City College of New York. He later went to the University of California, Berkeley for his Ph.D. program.
Honors
Time Magazine named him the “Man of the Year” in 1997. He received the IEEE Medal of Honor three years later. Other awards that he received were Franklin Institute Certificate of Merit, and Heinz Award.
Trivia
He suffered from scarlet fever at the age of four which nearly caused him his life.
During the 1950s, he worked as a local busboy.
He published a number of books with some titled “High Output Management” and “Physics and Technology of Semiconductor Devices”.
