He was considered a humane slave owner, however, did whip slaves he thought were disloyal to him. Andrew is a very controversial President.
Personal
Andrew was married to Rachel Jackson. This marriage was controversial due to Rachel not being divorced from her first husband before becoming Mrs.Jackson. Jackson’s opponents used this to their advantage and often attacked his wife’s honor. Jackson was shot in the chest during a duel which was sparked by someone saying something of ill repute about Mrs. Jackson. Andrew blamed their attacks on his wife’s early death from a heart attack.
