About Andrew S. Tanenbaum
Andrew S. Tanenbaum became an important figure worldwide especially for him being part of the computer science community and his immense contributions to the field. The American-Dutch computer scientist is best known for his creation of the Unix-like operating system called MINIX and for authoring very popular computer science books. His books include “Computer Networks”, “Modern Operating Systems” and “Distributed Systems”. He is a professor emeritus of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, where he has taught Operating System and Computer Organization courses.
Family Life
He was raised in White Plains, New York. He has been married to a Dutch woman, with whom he lives in the Netherlands. He acquired Dutch citizenship.
Achievements
In 2008, he received the USENIX Flame Award.
Trivia
He launched the polling data analysis website for US federal elections, Electoral-vote.com in 2004.
