About Andrew Wyeth
Andrew Wyeth rose to become one of the mid-20th century’s best-recognized artists. The American painter specialized in realism, particularly in the regionalist movement. His paintings usually focused on the people and area around him as the subjects.
The son of a professional artist and illustrator, his father was the only art teacher he ever had. His best-known works include “Christina’s World”, “Helga Paintings” and “Kuerner Farm Paintings”.
Family Life
He was the last of the five children born to N.C. Wyeth, who was responsible for illustrating more than 120 books. His mother’s name was Carolyn Bockius. He married a woman named Betsy James in 1940. He had two sons, one of whom, Jamie, became an artist.
Achievements
He received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the National Medal of Arts and the Congressional Gold Medal.
Death
He died on January 16, 2009 following a short illness.
