About Andrew Young
While working as a pastor, Andrew Young fell in love with Mahatma Gandhi's nonviolent concept which led to his campaign for the rights of African Americans. He is known to be a close partner to renowned American activist Martin Luther King Jr., and together they led many civil rights groups. He has worked with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference as its executive director.
Political career
Young’s political ambition started in 1970 when he contested for a seat in Congress to represent the people of Georgia. Though he wasn’t successful, he gained lots of fame and contested for the same post two years later which he won with the help of Murray M. Silver. Throughout his stay in the house, he was a component of the Congressional Black Caucus, and also helped in establishing the United States Institute for Peace.
President Jimmy Carter, in 1977, selected Young to represent the country at the United Nations. Four years later, he was elected the mayor of the state of Atlanta. He served in the position for two terms.
Family
Andrew Jackson Young Sr. and Daisy Young are the names of his parents. Jean Childs, a lady he married between 1954 and 1994, supported most of his works. They had four kids. He has been married to Carolyn McClain since 1996.
Education
He is a product of Howard University. Prior to that, he studied at Dillard University. He had his pastoral training at Hartford Seminary.

The American freedom fighter has received lots of awards such as Presidential Medal of Freedom, Légion d'honneur (France) and Emmy Awards' “Lifetime Achievement”.
Trivia
He has produced many interesting books. Some of these publications are titled “A Way Out of No Way” and “An Easy Burden: The Civil Rights Movement and the Transformation of America”.
He was said to be suffering from prostate cancer in 1999, but was cured a year later.
He inspired the film titled “Selma”. Andre Holland portrayed his character in the movie.
