About Anna Akhmatova
Anna was a Russian literary icon whose poems were incredible and was believed to be one of the most talented poets of Russian literature.
Personal Life
She was given the name Anna Andreyevna Gorenko but she chose to use Anna Akhmatova as her pen name especially after her father made her aware he did not want their name associated with poetry. Her parents were Inna Erazmovna Stogova and Andrey Antonovich Gorenko who worked as a naval engineer. She started putting together poetry even before she was twelve years old and started getting published as a teenager. She was married to Nikolay Gumilev in 1910 but they divorced after about eight years. She then married Vladimir Shilejko in the same year but they divorced in 1926. Her last husband was Nikolai Punin who died in a labour camp. She is known to have had one child.
Career
Some of the poems she has published include “Belaya Staya” which means White flock, “Stikhotoveniya”, “Twenty Poems of Anna Akhmatova” and “The Word That Causes Death’s Defeat: Poems of Memory”.
Trivia
She made it public that none of the members of her family was into poetry but she was distantly related to the first female Russian Poet.
Death
In 1965, she suffered from a heart attack and was admitted to the hospital. She died the following year due to heart failure.
