Anne McCaffrey started pursuing a writing career in the 1950s. Having been active for close to fifty years, she was affiliated with the science fiction and romance genres. She rose to fame through her “Dragonriders of Pern” science fantasy book series. Other books in the science fiction genre she is known for include “The Ship Who Snag”, “The White Dragon” and “Restoree”.
Family Life
She was the only girl and the middle of the three children of Col. George Herbert McCaffrey and Anne Dorothy McElroy. She was married to Horace Wright Johnson, whom she divorced in 1970. The couple had three children together. She moved to Ireland, where she acquired citizenship.
Achievements
She was the recipient of a Hugo Award and a Nebula Award.
Death
She died on November 21, 2011 from a stroke.
