About Anne Perry
Anne Perry was a celebrated British author who, aside from her numerous publications, was known for her role in the murdering of Honora Rieper. As a writer, she was the originator of the William Monk and Thomas Pitt fictional characters.
She first featured them in the 1979 novel entitled “The Cater Street Hangman”. Some of her other well-known works are titled “Death on Blackheath” and “Dark Tide Rising”.
In 1954, Perry, then known as Juliet Marion Hulme teamed up with Pauline Parker, her best friend, to murder the latter’s mother in South Island, New Zealand. Though the main reason for their action wasn’t known, it was believed that the fear of being separated inspired the then teenagers to murder Rieper.
After series of investigations, they were arrested and charged with murder. They were "detained at Her Majesty's pleasure". The friends were however released 5 years later.
She was the daughter of British scientist Dr. Henry Rainsford Hulme.
She studied at Christchurch Girls' High School.
