Early Life
Proulx was born to Lois Nellie Gill Proulx and Geaorge Napoleon Proulx. She lived out her childhood life in Norwich with her 5 other siblings. The author enrolled in the Deering High School and later attended Colby College. After a short break, she returned to continue her education at the University of Vermont from 1966 to 1969. Proulx finally enrolled in Concordia University in 1973 to pursue her Master's degree.
Career
The author started her career as a journalist and published her first fictional work in 1963, "The Customs Lounge". She delved into the world of novels and published successful pieces such as "Postcards" in 1992, "Accordion Crimes" in 1996, and "Barkskins" in 2016.
Proulx also experimented with non-fiction works and published "Great Grapes" in 1980 and "The Gourmet Gardener" in 1987.

The Norwich, Connecticut-born has been divorced 3 times in her lifetime but has 4 children as of 2021.
Awards
Proulx won the National Book Award in 1993.
