About Anthony Burgess
Anthony Burgess was an American comic writer whose novel titled “A Clockwork Orange” was the basis of the 1971 film of the same name. The author came into the limelight with his 1956 book “Time for a Tiger” which was the first episode of his “The Malayan Trilogy”. He also made a name for himself with his book “Earthly Powers” which was published in 1980.
Other works
Aside from his books, he also worked as a linguistic teacher. He was famous for translating some popular plays like “Oedipus Rex” and "Cyrano de Bergerac". He was also a composer and completed more than 250 musicals.
Family
His original name was John Anthony Burgess Wilson and was born to Elizabeth and Joseph Wilson. Before tying the knot with Italian translator Liana Macellari, he was married to Llewela Isherwood Jones. He had a son called Paolo Andrea.
Education
Burgess graduated from Xaverian College after completing Bishop Bilsborrow Memorial Elementary School.
Honors
The Royal Society of Literature honored him with their Companion of Literature title in 1991. He was also a member of the highly-rated Royal Society of Literature.
