Anton Drexler Rank
About Anton Drexler
The German-born politician was the co-founder of the German Workers' Party (DAP) which was headquartered in Munich. The party was known for its far-right ideology and its prejudicial stance against Jewish people. In 1920, the name was changed to the Nationalist Socialist German Workers Party (NSDAP).
Early Life
Born in Munich, in 1884, he moved to Berlin, where after a long season of unemployment, he became a devotee of the right-wing nationalist group, the Fatherland Party.
The German Workers' Party
In 1918, he formed a committee with the goal of opposing the Marxism of the free trade union and, ultimately, to form a party that would serve both the working class and the nationalists. The party later evolved to become the German Workers' Party in 1919. In the same year, he had met Adolf Hitler and had invited him to join the party because of their shared ideology. Hitler's oratory gift quickly won him the party’s chairmanship. In 1920, the GWP published its first program known as the "Twenty-Five Points." In the program, they rejected the terms of the peace treaties of World War I and advocated for the reunification of all German people.

Drexler died at 57 in Munich from alcoholism.
