About Anton Ferdinand
Anton Ferdinand was just 9 years old when he joined the youth academy of West Ham United in 1994. In 2003, he was promoted to the senior side, for which he ended up making 138 appearances. He moved to Sunderland in 2008 and from there to Queens Park Rangers in 2011. Between 2013 and 2019 (when he retired), he played for Antalyaspor, Reading, Southend United and St. Mirren. He never played for England’s senior national team but he represented the U18, U20 and U21 teams.
Family Life
Former England national team captain, Rio Ferdinand is his elder brother. Their mother, Janice is Irish and their father, Julian is from Saint Lucia. Les Ferdinand, who played for the England national football team as well, is his cousin.
Achievements
He emerged as the Premier League Player of the Month for January 2006.
Trivia
In November 2020, he collaborated with the BBC on a documentary titled “Anton Ferdinand: Football, Racism and Me” highlighting racism in football and his 2011 racial abuse incident with John Terry which ended up in court.
