About Antonio Puerta
Antonio Puerta was a Spanish soccer player who was a member of the Sevilla FC team that won the UEFA Cup in 2006 and 2007. Mostly used at the left back position, Puerta made his professional debut with the team in 2004 following some excellent outings with the youth team.
He won a total of five trophies during this three years spell with the team. His promising career was curtailed in 2007 when he was pronounced dead after suffering from a severe cardiac arrest.
International career
Puerta played five games each for the Spanish U21 and U23 sides before making his senior debut in 2006 against Sweden. The game turned out to be his only appearance for La Rojas.
Achievements
While with Sevilla FC, he won the Copa del Rey, the UEFA Super Cup, and the Supercopa de España.
Trivia
He starred alongside some prominent talents like Jesús Navas, and Sergio Ramos.
His former club honored him with a statue in 2010.
Two years before that, the club introduced the Antonio Puerta Trophy.
