About Anwar Sadat
Sadat was the third Egyptian president whose rule spanned between 1970 till his assassination in 1981. He was also noted to be an active member of the Egyptian revolutionary group known as "Free Officers", who were responsible for the overthrow of King Farouk in the revolution, which took place in 1952.
Some of Sadat’s notable accomplishments during his eleven-year reign include; the introduction of multi party system, opening of doors to private investors, leading Egypt to the 1973 "Yom Kippur War" where the nation regained the Sinai Peninsula from Israel.
Family Life
He was born into a wretched Egyptian home. He was born to Anwar Mohammed El Sadat and Sit Al-Berain. He had thirteen siblings, including his brother, Atef Sadat, who was a pilot but lost his life in the 1973 war.
Sadat got married to Eqbal Madi in 1940 and they both separated in 1949. He married Jehan Sadat in 1949, and they both stayed married till his death in 1981. His children include; Ruqayyah, Camelia, Lubna, Noha, Rawya, Jihan.
Achievements
He was honored "Grand Commander of the Order of the Defender of the Realm" in 1965 by Malaysia.
Sadat was bestowed a "Congregational Gold Medal" in 2018 by the USA.
Trivia
He was portrayed in a 1982 TV series "A Woman Called Golda", by Robert Loggia.
