About Aphra Behn
Aphra Behn was a prominent writer during the Restoration period which took place during the 17th Century. Throughout his career, Behn, who was known by the pseudonym Astrea, wrote over a dozen plays which included “The Counterfeit Bridegroom” and “The Emperor of the Moon”.
She went on to publish quite a number of proses with the most popular ones entitled “Oroonoko: or, the Royal Slave” and “The History of the Nun: or, the Fair Vow-Breaker”.
Personal Life
She was married to a gentleman known as Johan Behn.
Trivia
She inspired many female writers including Catherine Trotter and Delarivier Manley.
She was the subject of the play titled “Empress of the Moon: The Lives of Aphra Behn” which premiered in 2014.
At a stage in her career, she was made a spy by King Charles II
