About Aribert Heim
Aribert Ferdinand Heim was an Austrian doctor infamously known for killing many people during World War II. Dubbed “Dr. Death” or “Butcher of Mauthausen”, the mad doctor worked at the Mauthausen-Gusen concentration camp in Mauthausen. He used inmates as lab rats, torturing them using different methods, such as the direct injection of deadly substances into the hearts of his victims. He also became infamous for undertaking operations without anesthesia
Family
Heim had two sons with his ex-wife, Friedl. It was reported that he also had a daughter.
Education
He studied at the University of Vienna.
Career and Atrocities Committed
Heim started work as a physician in Mauthausen for one and a half months in six weeks in October 1941.
While at the Ebensee concentration camp, he experimented on the imprisoned Jews. He carried out experiments on Jews and others comparable to those done at Auschwitz by Josef Mengele.
Holocaust survivors reported that, the Jewish inmates had been poisoned with several shots of gasoline and other available chemicals and poisons, or even water directly into the heart, to kill them.
Beginning in February 1942, Heim worked as an SS physician in Oulu's hospitals as part of the 6th SS Mountain Division Nord in northern Finland. He remained in duty at least until October 1942.
Heim was taken prisoner of war on March 15, 1945, by US soldiers, who then sent him to a camp. He was freed and employed by Baden-Baden as a gynecologist until his disappearance in 1962.
