The song’s success was fueled by viral TikTok videos which used it as a background sound. The song became the first single by an independent artist to top the Spotify United States’ Top 50 chart. Due to the success of the track, he was signed by Columbia Records in November 2019.

Roxanne peaked at number 4 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart in December 2019. It also topped the New Zealand Top 40 Singles chart on November 18, 2019. It also scored significant chart positions on the Australian chart (ARIA chart), the Canadian Hot 100, the German (Gfk Entertainment chart), the Irish Singles, the Norwegian (VG-lista) and the UK Singles charts.
