About Arlen Specter
Arlen Specter began his career as a lawyer and was the co-founder of the Specter & Katz law firm alongside Marvin Katz. He served on the Warren Commission as an assistant counsel before he was appointed Philadelphia’s District Attorney in 1966.
A member of the Republican Party, Specter was voted into the U.S. Senate as a representative of the Pennsylvania state in 1981. Before leaving his position in 2011, he was the state’s longest-serving senator after three decades in offices.
He also chaired some high-profile groups such as the Senate Judiciary Committee and the Senate Intelligence Committee.
Family
His parents were Harry Specter and Lillie Shanin. In 1953, he got married to Joan Levy and together they raised two kids.
Education
The politician completed Russell High School before moving to the University of Oklahoma. He later joined the University of Pennsylvania to read international relations.
Death
He was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma which later caused his death in 2012.
Trivia
He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and served for two years.
As an author, he was known for his memoir titled “Passion for Truth”.
