About Arturo Frondizi
He was the first legally elected president of Argentina from 1958 to 1972. His government was geared towards re-establishing order and fostering economic growth.
Early Years
One of 14 sons, this South American leader was born in Paso de los Libres Corrientes, Argentina. In 1946, he was appointed to the Argentine Chamber of Deputies.
Presidency
As president, his administration focused on promoting a strong and varied market and putting high taxes on imported goods. He set about revitalising the economy through strict policies and making provisions for support from the I.M.F. (International Monetary Fund).
Frondizi allowed the Justicialists to take part in the 1962 elections. This move led to his arrest and cancellation of the election results following some wins by the Justicialists.
Family
In 1933, he married Elena Luisa Maria Faggionato with whom he had a daughter. His daughter died in 1976.
Accolades
In 1961, he received honorary doctorates from the University of Ottawa, the University of Hawaii and the Waseda University.
