About Ástor Piazzolla
Ástor Piazzolla was an arranger, bandoneon player and tango composer from Argentina. He was widely recognized for his efforts in developing the Argentina music genre called Tango into a modernized style named nuevo tango.
Piazzolla started playing bandoneon at a tender age. In 1932, he composed his first tango song titled, “La Catinga”. His works include “La Historia del Tango. La Guardia Vieja” in 1967 and “Piazzolla Interpreta A Piazzolla” in 1961.
Family
He was the son of Assunta Manetti and Vicente Piazzolla. In 1943, he married Dedé Wolff, his first wife but divorced her in 1966. In 1988, he wedded Laura Escalada, his second wife. He gave birth to two children named Diana Piazzolla and Daniel Piazzolla.

He was described as the world’s first Tango music composer by Stephen Holden, an American music writer.
Piazzolla was trained by Alberto Ginastera.
In 1943, he was taught how to play piano by Raúl Spivak.
He released his first classical works titled “Preludio No. 1 for Violin and Piano and Suite for Strings and Harps” after five years of piano lessons.
His birth name was Astor Pantaleón Piazzolla.
