Barbara Hutton earned the nickname “Poor Little Rich Girl” as a result of her tumultuous private life despite her riches. The American philanthropist, heiress and socialite inherited a third of retail tycoon Frank Winfield Woolworth’s Estate thereby becoming one of the world’s wealthiest women. She was known for her lavish spending habits, especially on the acquisition of expensive properties all around the world and for her seven failed marriages.
Family Life
She was the granddaughter of Frank Woolworth, through her mother, Edna Woolworth who died when she was four years old. Her father, Franklyn Laws Hutton co-founded the stock brokerage firm, E.F. Hutton. All seven of her marriages ended in divorce. Her ex-husbands included actor Cary Grant, French aristocrat Igor Troubetzkoy and German tennis champion Gottfried von Cramm. She had one son named Lance Haugwitz-Reventlow with her second husband, Kurt Haugwitz-Reventlow.
Death
She died from a heart attack on May 11, 1979.
