About Belle Starr
Belle Starr, an American criminal, gained notoriety for her numerous crimes such as bootlegging and bribery. In 1883, she was jailed for horse theft. Her association with the infamous James–Younger Gang made her one of the notorious personalities during the 1880s.
Her story has been popularized in many films and television shows such as “Maverick” and “The Belle Starr Story”.
Personal Life
Her original name was Myra Maybelle Shirley and was born to John Shirley and Elizabeth Hatfield Shirley. She had an older brother called John A. M. Shirley. In 1866, she got married to James C. Reed, and together they had two children named Rosie Lee (Pearl Starr) and Eddie Reed. She later married Sam Starr.
Death
She was ambushed and shot in 1889.
Trivia
In the film titled “Hell on the Border”, which was released in 2019, her character was portrayed by Amber Sweet.
American singer Woody Guthrie wrote a song about her.
