Bennett Cohen, shortened as Ben Cohen, is a wealthy American business executive, philanthropist and activist. He is best known for co-founding the famous American ice cream company, “Ben & Jerry’s Homemade Holdings Inc”.
Early Life & Education
Cohen is of Jewish descent and was born in Brooklyn, New York. He was educated at the “Buck’s Rock Performing and Creative Arts Camp” and “Sanford H. Calhoun High School”. He also attended Colgate University but quit college after his second year. He later worked many jobs, including taxi driving, being a cashier at McDonald’s, an ER clerk and teaching in private schools.
Ben & Jerry’s Homemade Holdings Inc
In May 1977, he partnered with his long-term friend Jerry Greenfield to establish an ice cream business in Burlington, Vermont. However, initially, the gentlemen wanted to open a bagel business but eventually settled on an ice cream company due to the high prices of bagel-making equipment. They named the ice cream company “Ben & Jerry’s Homemade Holdings Inc”. An interesting fact about “Benny & Jerry’s” distinctive ice cream style was that it was designed to compensate for Ben Cohen’s smell blindness.
He resigned as the company’s CEO in 1996.

He is an influential Democratic supporter and has been involved in various campaigns, including “Stamp Stampede”, “Democracy Awakening” and Bernie Sanders 2016 and 2020 campaigns”.
