The American-born poet Benjamin S. Lerner rose to fame after becoming a finalist at the National Book Critics Circle Award and the finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction award. The author also made name by being the first American to win the "Preis der Stadt Münster für internationale Poesie"
Start of Lerner's Life
Lerner was raised by his parents, Harriet Lerner and Steve Lerner, in Kansas. He started schooling at Topeka High School, where he graduated in 1997. He later went to Brown University, earning his degree in political science and poetry. Although Lerner was very astute in politics, he chose to follow the path of poetry in his early career.
Career
The poet published an extensive array of works, some including "The Lichtenberg figures" in 2004, "Angle of Yaw" in 2006, "Mean Free Path" in 2010, and "No Art" in 2016. He also wrote novels such as "Leaving the Atocha Station" in 2011 and "The Topeka School" in 2019. Lerner has a non-fiction novel called "The Hatred of Poetry'' in 2016. That same year, he was appointed a Distinguished Professor of English at Brooklyn College in New York.
