About Benjamin Disraeli
Benjamin Disraeli was a British politician and novelist, best remembered as the first Earl of Beaconsfield, and for serving twice as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom – in 1868 and from 1874 to 1880.
Family life
He was born to Isaac D’Israeli and Maria Basevi. He grew up with his siblings, Sarah, Ralph, James and Naphtali.
Achievements
He is credited with passing the Corrupt Practices Bill and abolishing public executions in 1868.
During his premiership, he passed acts such as the 1874 and 1878 Factory Acts, Public Health Act 1875, Artisans’ and Laborers’ Dwellings Improvement Act 1875 as well as the Poor Law Amendment Act of 1878.
He authored several novels including, The Young Duke (1831), Contarini Fleming (1832), Henrietta Temple (1837) and Lothair(1870), among others.
Trivia
He is known to have married one rich widow, Wyndham Lewis for her resources.
Disraeli’s first novel, titled Aylmer Paillon was written in 1824.
