About Benny Andersson
Right from childhood, Benny Andersson had the dream of becoming a very popular musician. At age 10, he got himself a piano and learnt how to play it on his own. He began performing in nightclubs five years later after abandoning his education.
His breakthrough came in 1964 when he was made the keyboardist of the band Hep Stars. Their most popular single titled "Cadillac" was released the following year.
He has gained global fame as a member of the Swedish pop collective known as ABBA, alongside Björn Ulvaeus, Anni-Frid Lyngstad, and Agnetha Fältskog. The group is known for their international hit tracks like "Mamma Mia" and "Money, Money, Money".
Collaborations
He has combined with fellow ABBA member Björn Ulvaeus to score songs for a number of musicals including “Chess” and “Kristina från Duvemåla”.
Personal Life
His father, Gösta Andersson, was a civil engineer. Laila, her mother, was very supportive during the initial stages of his career. He has a sister called Eva-Lis Andersson.
Before marrying Mona Nörklit in 1981, he was married to singer Anni-Frid (Frida) Lyngstad. He has a son with Nörklit called Ludvig.
Achievements
He was made an associate of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music in 2007. He was also awarded an Opus Klassik in 2018.
