About Bern Dibner
B.ern Dibner was a Ukrainian-American engineer and an avid historian of science. He set up two scientific book collections in his lifetime: the Dibner Library of the History of Science and Technology and the Burndy Library.
Career
The Ukrainian-born engineer moved to New York City in 1904. He attended the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, where he received his degree in electrical engineering in 1921. Three years later, he founded the Burndy Engineering Company.
Dibner started collecting original scientific works and wrote extensively on the history of science, including “The Atlantic Cable”. For his written works, he won the 1976 Sarton Medal from the History of Science Society.
