Bernadette Soubirous Rank
About Bernadette Soubirous
Bernadette Soubirous was posthumously declared a saint of the Catholic Church on 8 December 1933, 75 years after she experienced apparitions of a young lady who is believed to be Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ.
Being from humble beginnings, she was only 14 when she saw the Marian apparitions between February and July 1858, causing some people to disbelieve her while others thought she needed to be placed in an asylum. The Church investigated her claims, accepted them and named the apparition Our Lady of Lourdes.
Personal Life
She was born to Louise Casteròt and François Soubirous. She had eight younger siblings, but three of them died in infancy.
Aftermath of Apparitions
She joined a convent after her experiences were declared trustworthy because she was beginning to attract a lot of attention, which she did not like.
Death
She died from lung and bone tuberculosis on 16 April 1879 aged 35.
