About Bernard Pivot
Bernard Pivot is a journalist, interviewer, and cultural television personality from France. From 2014 until 2020, he was the chairman of the Académie Goncourt.
Early Life
The journalist was born to Marie-Louise Dumas and Charles Pivot. Pivot studied law and later enrolled in the Centre de formation des journalistes. He graduated and began studying economics during his internship in Le Progrès in Lyon.
Career
The journalist began his professional career by hosting a television program in 1973 called "Ouvrez les Guillemets". Unfortunately, the program was canceled, and pivot went on to run another program called "Apostrophes" from 1975 to 1990.
With the help of linguist Micheline Sommant, Pivot founded the Championnats d'orthographe (Spelling Championships) in 1985, which became the Championnats mondiaux d'orthographe (World Spelling Championships) in 1992, and the Dicos d'Or (Golden Dictionaries) in 1993.
Personal Life
The journalist tied the knot with his sweetheart Monique Pivot.
Trivia
The journalist also created some TV series such as "Bouillon de culture" from 1991 to 2001 and "Double je" from 2001 to 2005.
Achievements
Pivot was appointed an honorary member of the Order of Canada in 2008.
