She was married three times. She and Barker, a pilot, married in 1945 and divorced that same year. From 1947 to 1949, she was married to Lane Allen. Her third marriage was to television host and personality Allen Ludden from 1963 until his death in 1981.

Throughout her career, the legendary actress and comedian won numerous highly prestigious awards, including Emmy Awards and a Lifetime Achievement Award at the American Comedy Awards in 1990 and another at the Daytime Emmys in 2015.
