About Big Pun
Big Pun was the professional alias of the late American rapper and songwriter, Christopher Lee Rios. He rose to prominence from New York City’s underground rap scene following his discovery by rapper Fat Joe and subsequent feature on the latter’s “Jealous One’s Envy” album, released in 1995. Two years later, he landed a deal with Loud Records, under which his commercially-successful debut album, “Capital Punishment”, would be released in 1998.
He has been named amongst the all-time best emcees and is remembered for his lyrical prowess.
Family Life
His parents were of Puerto Rican descent. He and his siblings were raised in the South Bronx. He was married to his girlfriend from high school, Liza Rios, with whom he had three children, including rapper Christopher Jr.
Achievements
“Capital Punishment” received a Grammy nomination for “Best Rap Album”.
Death
He died of a heart attack on 7 February 2000.
