About Bill "Bojangles" Robinson
He was an American tap dancer, singer, and actor, who through his works, positively influenced the Black community and the world at large. Due to his highly successful career, throughout the first half of the twentieth century, he ranked as one of the highest paid Black American entertainers.
Some of the works in which he starred are namely; "Dixiana" (1930), "The Big Broadcast of 1936" (1935), "Just Around the Corner" (1938), "By an Old Southern River" (1942), "Stormy Weather" (1943), and more.
Family Life
His father, Maxwell Robinson worked as a machinist while his mother, Maria Robinson was a choir director. He had brother named Luther Robinson. He married Lena Chase in 1907 and they separated in 1922. He was married to Fannie Clay between 1922 and 1943. He married Elaine Plaines in 1944 and stayed with her until his death in 1949.
Achievements
His album, “The Big Sounds Of The Sports Cars” earned him a nomination for the “Best Engineered Recording - Special Or Novel Effects” at the 1964 Grammy Awards.
